Sudak

Sudak or Soudak (Greek Sugdeia in , Italian Soldaia in ) is a town of the Crimea (Ukraine), located 57km at the West of Caffa.

The city was founded at the 3rd century by Greek merchants come from Byzance or at the 7th century only, by merchants Sogdiens from which it would draw its name. The Khazars controlled this city between the year 707 and the year 1016, when the Byzantines took again control of it.

It was destroyed by the Coumans at the 11th century, then by the Mongolian in 1223 and 1239. Several years after that, Sudak was occupied by the Venetian ones, which then yielded it to GĂȘnois, in 1365.

The Othoman then conquered it in 1475, before yielding it to the Khanat of the Crimea.
