Such as it is
Such as it is was a review of literature of avant-garde, founded in 1960 in Paris with the Éditions of the Threshold by several young authors brought together around Philippe Sollers. The review aimed to reflect the revaluation by the avant-garde of traditional of the history of the literature.
The editorial board included/understood Philippe Sollers, Jean-Edern Hallier, Jean-Rene Huguenin, Jean Ricardou, Jean Thibaudeau, Michel Deguy, Marcellin Pleynet, Denis Roche, Jean-Louis Baudry, Jean-Pierre Faye, Jacqueline Risset, and Julia Kristeva.
Among the authors and collaborators, one notes Roland Barthes, Georges Bataille, Jacques Derrida, Jean-Pierre Faye, Michel Foucault, Julia Kristeva, Bernard-Henri Levy, Marcellin Pleynet, Philippe Sollers, Tzvetan Todorov, Francis Ponge, Umberto Eco, Gerard Genette, Pierre Boulez, Jean-Luc Godard, or Pierre Guyotat.
The publication stopped in 1982. The Editions of the Threshold having refused to yield the title, the review which had moved with the Éditions Denoël had to change name to reappear under the title Infinite the in 1983 (and with the Éditions Gallimard since 1987).
Monumental (a 600 pages) History of Such as it is, 1960-1982 was published into 1995 with the Editions of the Threshold (collection “Fiction & Co”) by Philippe Forest.
Such as it is is also the title of two volumes of Paul Valéry, published in 1941 and 1943.
