Succulent plant

The succulent plants are Plante S fleshy, also called “ fatty plants ”, which are adapted to survive in Milieu X arid because of the characteristics of the ground, of the Climat or with strong concentration in salt. In this last case, one speaks about plants Halophyte S. Their adaptation, different from those of the plants Xérophyte S themselves, is related to their capacity to store Eau in the Feuille S, the Tige S or the roots.

The term comes from the Latin suculentus which means “full with juice”.

Adaptive characteristics

Although all the plants store water, the succulent plants are particularly adapted there in particular for the long periods of Sécheresse. That enables them to survive in arid environments where they meet only few predatory herbivores. During the day, their habitat is rather hot. However, it is fresher the night, allowing the succulent plants " respirer".

Distribution

One finds them mainly with the Mexico, in South Africa, South America, India.
