Subway to Sally

Subway to Sally is a group which was born with Potsdam, in Germany in the years 1990. Its style at the border of the music Folk and medieval grew rich later by influence Metal and Gothique. The songs of the first album are mainly in English, the following albums are them almost exclusively in German, certain songs being in Latin or Gaelic. The group carried out 8 albums in studio, an album live, and a live DVD.

Biography

Michael Simon ( Simon ) and Michael Boden ( Bodenski ) knew each other at the school in 1980 when they found with two other comrades the group Zweieck . Whereas Bodenski carries out are military service in the German national army, the group which is not complete any more remainder in damning up. After its return, the two other members do not reinstate the group. Simon and Bodenski then meet Ingo, Silvio Runge ( Sugar Ray ) and Guido, which form part at the time of the group Katzengold . Simon, Bodenski, Silvio and Guido found the group Bodenski Beat together. Ingo then joined them at the end of its military service.

One evening of 1990, the five members decide to engage of the artists of Folk music. It name then the project Subway to Sally (Sally is described in the song Down the Line like a divine light at the end of a long tunnel), and engage the violonist Silke Volland ( Frau Schmitt ) and the Coni trumpet player. September 15th, 1990, they give their first concert. Coni leaves the group relatively early whereas it falls pregnant. The piper Erik Hecht ( Eric Fish ) joined the group later and sings in the second album MCMXCV . The evolution between the first album 1994 and the tenth album Engelskrieger is impressive, the more so as since the album MCMXCV more no song is in English. Starting from Engelskrieger , the electronic music comes to reinforce the musical screen. The ninth album Northern North Ost mark a certain change of the musical style but also the passage of the publisher Universal at the publisher Nuclear Blast.

At the conclusion of a round in crowned live-acoustics of success, the live DVD Nackt is published which contains a big number of no-claims bonus. A member of the group The Inchtalokatables comes to collaborate in the project by accompanying them with the violoncello.

German texts and Middle Ages

The lyric style holds a big part with the success of the group. The Bodenski lyric writer, who studied the German literature, writing, since the album MCMXCV of the German texts rich in Métaphore S, which sound partly medieval. Because of the contents of the first albums, in which Sorcières appear, wandering and other daring beings, Subway to Sally was quickly put in the category Medieval rock'n'roll. During interviews, the group was defended some, referring to the folk rather. The topic of the Middle Ages is not present any more starting from the album Engelskrieger , on which Bodenski speaks mainly about complaints of the current time. The album Northern North Ost turns over to similar topics of the older albums.
