Subway of Marseilles

The subway of Marseilles is a tyred subway derived from the technology developped at the point by the RATP for its network Parisian and brought into service to leave 1977. It comprises two lines, partly underground, an overall length of 19 km, entirely located in the commune of Marseilles. Two prolongations are in hand: the first, located on line 1, is currently in work; the second is at the stage of the preliminary studies.

It is a municipal Public service exploited in Régie by the Régie transport of Marseilles (RTM).

Line 1

Line 1 was built into 1977 of Castellane Place in the Rose (9,4 km and 10 stations) then a prolongation in 1992 until Timone. At present, the line is in work until the Fodder one, it is envisaged another prolongation beyond the Rose towards Gombert Castle and the technopolis. After the prolongation, it will make 14,8 km for 18 stations.

Line 2

The line was built between 1984 and 1987, a project of prolongation of Holy-Marguerite with St-wolf is being studied. It makes 8,4 km for 12 stations. It should be prolongee towards St-Louis in north
