Subway of Ōsaka

The subway of Ōsaka , in English: Municipal Ōsaka Subway , in Japanese: 大阪市営地下鉄 (Kanjis), おおさかしえいちかてつ (Hiraganas), is a network of Public transport serving the municipality of Ōsaka to the Japan.

This consistué network of 9 lines is operated since its inauguration in 1933 by the department of transport in commun runs of the municipality of Ōsaka.

Network

Integration

The plan of the subway of Ōsaka was conceived by integrating the existing railway lines, which is the reason of the relative weak density of stations as soon as one moves away from the center, these zones well being then served by the private railway companies. The network is supplemented by the circular line of train private around the downtown area of Ōsaka pertaining to the company JR West.

Circulation

History

The first section of the subway of Ōsaka goes back to 1933, along the street Midōsuji which is the principal North-South axis of the city. Many lines were inaugurated before the World Fair of Ōsaka in 1970.

Design

The majority of the lines are in the form of trenches buried under the automobile main arteries of the city. The ways are has standard spacing (1435 mm), but some are remarkable:
  • the lines Nagahori Tsurumi-Ryokuchi and Imazatosuji are used by subway trains to linear propulsion, of compactness than the traditional oars.
  • the Sakaisuji line, just like the two preceding lines are fed electrically by overhead line under 1,5 Kv continuous (other lines using a third continuous rail under 750 V).
