Suburban train

The suburban trains are passenger trains who are exploited in service given rhythm in the great urban centres and their periphery. They generally circulate on lines of Railroad known as radial, which connect the center of a Métropole with its districts and cities peripheral in Banlieue and more rarely on transverse lines (of suburbs with suburbs). These lines are characterized by their relatively short length (approximately 50 km) and by the frequency of the stagnation points. They, but always, are often not specialized with this type of traffic (It is for example the case of the lines Réseau regional express of Ile-de-France the RATP).

These Train S plays a big role in the economic life of the Agglomération because they transport a great number of workers according to a rate/rhythm known as “pendular”, the morning of the periphery towards the center and the evening in opposite direction. Of this fact their average occupancy rate is weak (lower than 50%), which does not prevent them from being often overloaded at the rush hours. These flows, of radial type, reflect the importance of the city-center, at the same time as they consolidate it.

A particular category of suburban lines is consisted the connections between center town and airport.
