Subdivisions of Morocco
Note: This article includes the the Sahara Occidental, asserted and managed by the Morocco .
Since the reform of 1997 bearing decentralization of the Moroccan administration, Morocco is subdivided in three levels:

16 economic areas, created by the law of 1997, having each one at its head a Wali ( governor of area ), as well as a District council, representative of the “lifeblood” of the area. These areas have the statute of local government agency (article 101 of the Constitution).
- These areas gather the 45 provinces and 26 prefectures, being equivalent urban of the first, which constitute the second link of the local organization of the country and its directed by a governor.
- Lastly, the country is also divided into 1547 communes, including 249 urban and 1298 rural.
