Subdivisions of Ethiopia
the Ethiopia is divided into 9 administrative areas, established on ethnic bases ( kililoch ; singular Kilil ) and two “city-areas” ( astedader akababiwach , singular - astedader akabibi ), indicated by asterisks:
- Addis-Abeba *
- Afar
- Amhara
- Benishangul-Gumaz
- To say Dawa *
- Gambela
- Area Harar
- Oromia
- Somali
- Area of the nations, nationalities and people of the Striped South
These administrative areas replace the older system of the provinces established by Haïlé Sélassié Ier. Their names sometimes are still employed to indicate a place in the country. At the time of the modification, in 1995, these provinces were:
