Sub-antarctic Islands of New Zealand

The sub-antarctic islands of New Zealand are composed of the five archipelagoes of the most southern islands to the borders of the New Zealand. These islands all are of the sites of the inheritance world.

The majority of the islands are located close to the southern limit of the continent, called Zealandia , largely immersed which is centered on the New Zealand. This continent subsided after the detachment of the Australia there are 60 to 85 million years and of the Antartique there are 130 to 85 million years.

Until 1995, a scientific team of research was stationed in a permanent way at the weather station on the island Campbell. Since, the islands are uninhabited.

The islands are:

  • Islands Antipodes: the principal island, the Bollons island, the Windward island, the island Orde Lees, the Leeward island, the Southern small island and of the minor rocks.
  • Islands Auckland: the island of Auckland, Adams island, Enderby island, Disappointment island, Ewing island, Dundaset island and the Green island and some rocks minor.
  • Islands Bounty: two small groups of small islands, the minor group Western and group Eastern, and some rocks.
  • Group of the island Campbell: island Campbell, the principal island and several minor rocks and of the small small islands surrounding the Campbell island, also including/understanding the point most southern of New Zealand, the island Jacquemart.
  • Snares: island of the North-East, high island, the Broughton island, Alert Stack, Tahi, Rua, Toru, Wha, and Rima, plus some minor rocks.

They present certain common points, in the West, with the island Macquarie.
