Studies of medicine in Belgium
In Belgium, the number of inscription to university faculties of medicine is not limited. Everyone can thus be registered there. However the Belgian system has a major disadvantage: the " Numerus Clausus". This decree aims at limiting the number of doctors. To arrive there it envisages a limited number of places in second year of medicine. Unfortunately these quotas are well too severe. As example, in 2006 + 500 pupils were registered at the university of Liege in medicine and the quota was fixed at 90 places in second year. This year contest is very difficult for moral pupils, mainly those which make a success of their year but are not allowed in second because they are not classified in the 90 first. The studies are longest. First of all 7 years ago of university (5 years theoretical and 2 years of training course in all the sectors) to obtain the rank of doctor. Follow-up of a 2 years minimum to become general doctor and of a 6 years maximum for certain specialities like the surgery for example. The complete studies are thus spread out at least over 9 years for the general practitioners and to the maximum over 13 years for certain specialities. Medical college - University of Liege

With the Quebec, a student can be registered at the university of his choice if it holds at least a diploma of collegial studies in sciences of health, pure sciences or sciences of nature. In the other Canadian provinces, the majority of the medical colleges require a university formation of a few years before being able to be allowed in the program of medicine. The medical studies in Canada last generally at least 6 years. The first two years are devoted to theoretical teaching and the two following ones to training courses (period called externat in Quebec). After these four years of university, which confer the diploma for the occupation of doctor of medicine (M.D.), the candidate owes compéter a residence in hospital medium, either in general medicine (2 years), or in specialized medicine (4 years or more). The candidate must have supplemented his residence before being able to practice medicine.
