Student circles of the UCL

The circles studying of the UCL are the associations created by the students of the catholic Université of Leuwen.

In addition to the folk circles (generally facultaires), there are in particular cultural, sociocultural and artistic circles, political circles and national and regional circles.

History

The circles facultaires

The Industrial Circle

The Industrial Circle, more commonly called C.I., is the circle of the student of the faculty of sciences applied (engineers and data processing). created in December 1872 with Leuven, in Belgium, it had like first vocation to facilitate the contact between the student Engineer S and the companies, from where name industrial . It is in this spirit that the first President is a member of the teaching staff of faculty, and chairs for several years the circle. Thereafter, the activities of the circle were directed of advantage towards the festive aspect of the student's life, and a bar is open.

In 1873 the circle counted 17 members. In 1957 the statutes are published to profit from the legal personality of ASBL, these statutes are revised in 1973 at the time of the removal with Leuwen-the-New. In 2006 association counts 924 adherent members.

At the time of the scission of the catholic Université of Leuwen, following the Crise of Leuwen and of the Leuwen-the-New creation of the Campus of , the Faculty of Science applied being the first to occupy the new site, the industrial Cercle is the very first one to be established on the site, which is worth to him today to lay out of surface bar more exigüe of all the circles louvanists.

The GCI

March 14th 2002, association Grand Industrial Circle (GCI) is created, gathering around the C.I four other active organizations within the faculty of sciences applied, all with the service of the whole of the students of faculty:
  • Ci : Ring Industriel, the circle of the student civil engineers, dealing with the guindailles.

  • SICI : Service of Impression of the Industrial Circle, which deals with the impression of the syllabus and the pipes.
  • the CCII : Contact Rings Industrial Industries, which organizes the ball of the engineers, the conferences on employment and the meetings between the students and the companies.
  • CECI-BEST : Contact Europe - Industrial Circle, which is the local antenna of the organization BEST. Its members deal with the reception of the students Erasmus, and the organization of the courses and events BEST. They organize each year at least a course gathering twenty students coming from all the Europe around a scientific subject.
  • the CIA : the Academic Industrial Circle, ensures the representation of the students of faculty within each decisional body facultaire.

The House of Sciences

The MDS, or house of sciences, is the circle of the students of the exact Faculty of Science of UCL. It was born in September 2000 with fusion from the Maphys circles (students in mathematics-physics) and NASH (science students natural), this last already resulting from fusion in 1997 of the Bio circle and Chigé ² (chemistry-geography-geology).

Before the " transfer in ambulance" from Leuwen to Leuwen-the-New of the French-speaking part of the Catholic University of Leuwen, all sciences had their own circle in a common building. They are the students of maths-physics who were certainly the first to want to re-establish the folklore of the circles louvanists. Created in 1972, Maphys was the first circle of Leuwen-the-New (cfr. Ci). One owes with this last very famous Quinzaine Belgian Beer (still today organized by the MDS), but also the organization of the Ball of Blue in collaboration with Ci.

The drink fetish of the members (and non-members) of the MDS is Sins it Mel Bush, imported NASH. The great weekly evening of the MDS is Thursday.

The Circle of the Economic, Social and Political Science students

The history of the CESEC probably goes back to last century. We have little information concerning the CESEC when it was installed in the town of Leuwen. The CESEC was located then at number 2 of Dekenstraat (street of the Seniors), i.e. just below the Institute of the economic scenes applied (ISEA). The name of the CESEC comes from this time when it gathered only the students of the ISEA since it meant " C ercle of the E tudiants in S ciences conomic E and C ommerciales". It is into 1972 that the CESEC disappears following a fire and with the tranfert from the French-speaking section from the UCL towards Leuwen-the-New. The last president of the CESEC in Leuwen is not other than Charles Picqué, the Minister-President of the Area of Brussels (2007).

The CESEC exists with Leuwen-the-New since 1977, date on which it was recreated by Christian Louis (first president of the CESEC to Leuwen-the-New), Marc Loosfelt, Michel Mahaux, Alain Trussart, Benoît Van Grieken and Solange Pijppe. Today, the CESEC is the circle of the students of the Faculty of the economic scenes, social and policies of the UCL. It thus aims a broader number of students. The CESEC was shown particularly active with the beginning of the year 1990, in particular with the organization of Miss UCL in Aqualibi. Progressively of the years, the CESEC gathered world more and more and was essential like one of the largest circles of Leuwen-the-New. Today, it is well-known for its evening of Tuesday and its afternoons shone upon thanks to Ricard.

The CESEC is currently the most important circle of Leuwen-the-New and contributes largely to animation coed, in particular by the organization of largest the 24 Hours animation Bicycle like its memorable " evenings of the mardi".
