Stud farm of the Pine
The Haras of the Pine is on the commune the Pine-with-Stud farm, in the department of the Orne, in area Basse-Normandie. They is oldest of the 23 National stud farms French.
History
In 1665, Colbert and Louis XIV decides to create the administration of the stud farms in order to there raise standards and to push research on the improvement of the races. The site was selected in 1714 for the quality of its pastures and the facilities of water provision.The current buildings (stables and castle) were built under the reign of Louis XV, between 1715 and 1730, by the architects Pierre the Sparkling wine and Robert de Cotte on plans of Mansart. The writer Jean of Varende had called it “Versailles of the Horse”. The park is imagined by Ours in the tradition of the gardens to the Frenchwoman.
In 1789, he escapes from little from the destruction. The Stud farm was occupied by the Prussians in 1871 and the Germans in 1940 and was in the middle of the site of the Bataille of Normandy, near to the pocket of Cliff, without to have suffered damage.
Activity of the Stud farm
Always in service, the Stud farm of the Pine belongs to the State and continues genetic research on the reproduction of the horses. The stud farm extends on more than 1000 hectares (250 of wood, 630 of meadows) in the countryside ornaise and shelters more than fifty standards of ten different races which give more: 10000 projections per annum.The park of the stud farm includes/understands the Institute of the horse as well as the Vocational school of the national stud farms. The Stud farm accommodates international competitions like the championship of Europe of attachment in 1979 or the World congress of the Percherons in 1989.
The Stud farm accommodates many tourists and proposes guided visits all the year. With an annual frequentation from 60.000 to 70.000 visitors, the stud farm is the first tourist site of the Flowering ash. A space museographic was installed in 2006 in an old stable.
Anecdotes
Furioso, celebrates standard born in 1939 and died in 1967, is the only horse buried with the stud farm.
