Stuart Sutcliffe
Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe (June 23rd 1940, Edinburgh - April 10th 1962, Hamburg), is a painter and British musician of Scottish origin , which was member of the Beatles in 1960 and 1961.
Friend of John Lennon, it joined the Beatles in January 1960 with the low . However Stuart is not musician and it integrates the group only because it has the means of buying low (following the sale of the one of its tables). During hearings, he plays of back so that the producers do not realize that he cannot play. The first photographs of the group in Hamburg (photographs taken by Astrid Kirchherr), one is struck by his beauty, and his side James Dean. It is at that time, whereas Beatles are engaged with Hamburg by Bruno Koschmider, that Stuart meets Astrid and fall passionately in love from there (in one of the letters which he addresses to his mother, he says by speaking about Astrid “God that I like it”). It is besides it which would be at the origin of the famous haircut of Beatles.
It leaves the group in spring 1961 to devote themselves to its studies of art but especially to remain near its soul mate Astrid Kirrscher which resides at Hamburg. It is from now on Paul McCartney which will play of low, Lennon and Harrison not wanting to leave their guitars.
He dies the April 10th 1962, with Hamburg where he lives, of a brain hemorrhage, the day before return of Beatles in Germany. John Lennon is very marked by this disappearance and there will refer in several songs in particular In my life (1965). A film was devoted to Stuart Sutcliffe, Backbeat (in the Nineties), interpreted by Stephen Dorff.
The fabrics of Stuart Sutcliffe are recognized like excellent by many experts and are sold very well today still. It was only 21 years old.
