Strong the Niagara

Fort the Niagara is a Fortification 17th century built in the beginning to defend the interests of the Nouvelle France in North America. It is located close to Youngstown in the state of New York on Right Bank of the the Niagara at its mouth in the Lake Ontario. The first structure, called Strong Conti , was built in 1678 by Rene Robert Cavelier of the Room. In 1688, the Governor of New France, the Marquis de Denonville, made extremely set up new on this site. Baptized Strong Denonville , it will last only until August 1689, when it abandoned then was burned by the Sénéca S. In 1726, new strong is built on the same site. Malicieusement named Trading post in order to appaiser the Hodenosaunee , or Iroquois. In 1726 it is replaced by a baptized stone masonry " The House of Paix". Its name running of " Castle français" will not be used before the 19th century. The fort will be increased until its current size in 1755 because of the increasing tensions between the France and the the United Kingdom.

Since the Treated of Ghent the December 24th 1814, it was occupied by the US Army until its closing down in 1963. Fort the Niagara was used for the drive of the troops at the time of the Guerre Spanish-American and the First World War and was transformed into captive camp of during the Second world war. Fort the Niagara was renovated and is now a park and a Musée.
