Strong Stork

The Extremely-Stork was built tardily, at the request of the marshal of Montesquiou , to counter the occupation of the archipelago of the Glénan by the English and Dutch corsairs. This strong goes back to 1755, and occupies half of the island. It is a combination of two batteries, with interior casemates equipped in quarterings, cistern, bakery and dungeons. The granite ramparts are high of 7 Mr.

He was definitively displaced in 1899: it remains in good state, except for the frames which crumbled. At the end of the 19th century, it was used as weather station at the laboratory of marine biology of Concarneau.

In 1914-1918, during the war, of Concarnois occupied Extremely-Stork. They had some problems of supply. In 1940-1945, a small German troop occupied the fort.

Strong Stork from now on is used by the trainees of the nautical center of Glénans.

A turret of 20 m, built in 1911, surmounts the fort on the southern rampart. It is used as Amer, benchmark still quite useful for the many yachtmen which make stopover in the archipelago. Painted in white and black this land-mark is used as mark with the National marine for speed trials between Groix and Glénan.
