Strong Medoc
The Fort Medoc is a fort located at Cussac-Extremely-Medoc (the Gironde, France). In addition to its fortifications, it contains two barracks which could lodge 300 men.
The construction of the Strong Medoc began in 1686 and lasted 32 years. It was directed by Vauban. Its military occupation stopped in 1916.
Built in the alignment of the Citadel of Blaye and the Strong Pie, this unit constituted the 2° line of defense of the Estuaire of the Gironde to protect the access to Bordeaux.
The fort is in the course of restoration by the association of the Friends of the strong Medoc.
