Strong Liédot

The strong Liédot , also called Extremely of the Celebrity , is a fortification located on the island of Aix in the department of the Charente-Maritime.

Presentation

Napoleon I {{er}} after its passage on the island of Aix in 1808, draws a first draft of it. Construction began starting from 1810. The blocks of stones constituting the fort are carted via the Charente since Saint-Savinien.

In 1812, the fort is famous Fort Liédot, in homage to the colonel of the same name, died during the Campagne of Russia.

This fort testifies to the control of the Officers of the Genious in art to build. It is established on the culminating point of the island, and is half-sunken to escape the shootings from artillery. However it will undergo of attack only the shootings of drive of the French Army. It was used especially as place of detention for political prisoners, of which Ahmed Ben Bella, the 1st President of the République of Algeria.
