Strong Base
__TOC
Definition
In chemistry, a strong base is a completely protonic Base in solution. A strong base is thus a chemical compound which will have a very strong affinity for a Proton H+. In an acid couple bases, a strong base is associated with an acid of null force. A strong base after having collected a H+ proton will be transformed into an acid of null force. Such a couple is characterized, in aqueous Solution, by a PKa higher than 14.
Examples of strong bases
-
the Hydroxide of sodium or Soda (NaOH)
- the Hydroxide of potassium or Potasse (KOH)
- the Hydroxyde of cesium (CsOH)
- the Hydroxyde of calcium (Ca (OH) 2)
- the Ion amidure (NH2-)
- the ion oxidizes (O2-)
