Street Fighter (series)

Created by Capcom, Street Fighter is one of longest the series of video game of combat.

History of the series

Street Fighter

The first episode of the series left in 1987 has as an originality to benefit from the system Analogique of the buttons: the power of the blows carried in the play is proportional to the pressure applied. This system was abandoned, following the abuses and ill treatments undergone by the terminals, certain players not hesitating to type foot over the buttons.

The series Street Fighter II

  • the series is especially known for its second episode, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior , left in 1991 and for all the alternatives ( Champion Edition , Hyper Fighting , etc) which succeeded to him. Characters come from the four corners of planet devote themselves to engagements without mercy, where the jouability is particularly proposed. One can think that the strategic aspect of the engagements, as well as the system, new at the time, of the special blows (containing arcs of circle or other of the joystick) were for much in the success of this play.

  • In 1993, Capcom leaves Super Street Fighter II , another reference, which is dissociated by a greater number of characters and new special blows. This episode will be followed by Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo , an improved version.

The series Street Fighter Alpha

  • the year 1995 marks a turning in the series with Street Fighter Alpha - Warriors' Dreams (in Japanese: Street Fighter Zero ). The innovation is especially visual. Graphics of Street Fighter II were more or less realistic, the characters and the decorations of the series Alpha slice with a style very close to the manga. One notes in this opus the appearance of characters resulting from another play from Capcom: Final Fight . One finds there also certain characters of the first Street Fighter . As regards the scenario, the action proceeds before with that of the series of the " Street Fighter II" , which made it possible to introduce renovated characters.

  • the following year, the amateurs of plays of combat are entitled to Street Fighter Alpha 2 which is an enormous success. The play innovates in particular on the level of the techniques of combat with a new management of the combo S.

  • the series Street Fighter Alpha finishes in beauty with Street Fighter Alpha 3 . All the elements which made the success of the preceding plays are present: a choice varied characters (in particular 16 characters of Super Street Fighter II , in addition to the characters of the series Alpha , a system of play quite as rich with various modes, of neat and detailed graphics. The management of the combo S is still refined, with possibilities of juggles much wider.

Differences in name according to the versions: whereas the Japanese version introduces Mr. Bison like a black boxer in wink to Mike Tyson, the names of characters were inverted in the American version. Thus, Mr. Bison became Balrog (name of Spanish armed with claws in the Japanese version), Balrog became Vega (name of the dictator inhabitant of Thailand in the Japanese version) and finally Vega became Mr. Bison. The European version took again the names of the American version, which maintained confusion.
