Stratotype
The stratotype is the Affleurement - standard (standard) which makes it possible to define a stage stratigraphic scale.
The name of the stage often takes as root the geographical place where the stratotype is, to which one adds the suffix - IEN (for example: Hettangien, Oxfordien, Bajocien…)
