Strategy ABC

The strategy ABC (of English " has bstinence, B E Faithful, Use has C ondom": Abstinence, be faithful, use a condom ) is a policy of sex education based on the reduction of evil which modifies the strict approach of abstinence and including education about the sécuri-sexes and of contraception. The approach of ABC was developed in answer to the epidemic of the HIV and Sida in Africa, and to stop the diffusion of others transmissible infections sexuellements.

The strategy recommends the sexual abstinence apart from the marriage as an ideal. He recommends the use of the Préservatif S and others practical of the Sécuri-sex only if it is not possible to have one sexual associate.

The emphase of the strategy on the abstinence with its pragmatic conclusion that the pure abstinence is an ineffective approach allowed the ABC plan to be more pleasant with some African governments and American organizations of placement which answer a Christian base of voters.

One in particular used this strategy in Uganda and with the Botswana.

Criticisms

The interpretation of the three elements in the international medical policy can be discussed. For example, the ABC plan of the President of the United States, PEPFAR, was criticized to give the priority to the Abstinence and the monogomy. The condoms can be only distributed to the “high-risk” groups, and not to the general population.
