Stralsund
Stralsund is a Western city of the Mecklembourg-Poméranie, left the Poméranie, in the north of the Germany. The city is on the Strelasund, an arm of the the Baltic between the island of Rügen and the continent. Within sight of its situation, the city is sometimes called “the port of Rügen”.
With the invitation of Jaromar II, the Dominicain S founded there the Monastère Sainte Catherine ( Katharinenkloster ) in 1251 and the Franciscain S the monastery Saint Jean ( Johanniskloster ) in 1254.
With its 57 613 inhabitants (1. January 2007), it belongs to the more big cities of the area of Poméranie. She saw mainly Tourisme. Among the most known attractions, one can quote the German Musée of the sea, the watery park, the port of pleasure, the place of the old market (Alter Markt) with the town hall and the St-Nicolas church, the new place of the market, the St-Marie church, etc
Beside the Tourism, the sea always plays a big role in the local economy. The shipyard, the port and the fishing employ many inhabitants.
