The name of Stosswihr appears for the first time in 783 pennies the form of Stozzeswillars.

Following the War Thirty Year old, Stosswihr, as the remainder of Alsace, passed under French domination, according to the clauses of the Traité of Westphalia in 1648.

After 1870 and under the terms of the Treated of Frankfurt in 1871, the village was again integrated in the German Empire. From 1914 to 1918, the First World War went, once more, to make them change nationality. As of the first days, the commune was transformed into battle field.

In February 1915, the Germans tackled the face to seize the Col of Schlucht. After 8 days of combat and considerable losses, the Germans could occupy half of Stosswihr and Reichackerkopf. The German offensive on Schlucht was broken, but the face crossed the village in its medium (in trimmings of the current War memorial) until 1918.

Rebuilt as from 1920, the new village had unfortunately to face a new war and an occupation of 1940 to 1945, but without too much damage this time.

The village currently counts 1370 inhabitants. Little industry, but a developed craft industry and a long-lived agriculture, the village has the most important cattle population of the valley. Its authenticity attracts many tourists. The latter, as fine gourmets, are also interested in the local specialities and traditions and naturally in the munster, the cheese of manufactured in the marcairies and farms of the valley.
