Stornoway (Quebec)

Stornoway is a Municipalité in the regional Municipalité of county (MRC) of the Granit to the Quebec, (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Estrie, area so known under the name of Cantons of the East. This village counts a little less than 600 inhabitants. It is located at the crossing of two important provincial roads (road 108 and road 161).

Stornoway was named in the beginning Winslow southern. The village was the southern part of the canton of Winslow which is divided into two by the river Felton. Other half of the canton is today the village of Saint-Romain.

The canton of Winslow was colonized by Scot which baptized the Stornoway village according to Stornoway, the capital of the the island of Lewis, largest of the Western Isles of the Scotland.

The first Canadian-Frenchwoman family to be established in Stornoway is the Legendre family.
