Stopping of Cize-Bolozon

History

At the time of the construction of the Stopping of Cize-Bolozon , the companies of electricity had each one their factories, their electric lines and their customers. The hydroelectric station of Cize-Bolozon built on the Ain between 1928 and 1931 by the company " Rhone-Jura" Electrical energy; was designed to improve the food of the iron-foundries of the Creusot and collieries of Decize, the surplus being resold with the " Burgundian company of Transport of Energie" who provided Gueugnon, Bourges, Dijon, Lyon and wanted to reinforce his outlets towards the Paris region. This factory was most important of the valley of the Ain. Currently its production, as that of the majority of the other factories of the valley from goes away on the regional network 63000V.

Construction

The construction of the stopping through a river as capricious as was the Ain at the time was made possible only by the clothes industry of circular enclosures in sheeting piles.

The raw many and exceptionally violent of spring and the summer 1930 on several occasions drowned the building site, but the pugnacity of the men overcame the outbursts of nature.

Stopping

With its superstructures, the Barrage is typical constructions of this time. Its provision was made necessary by the type of valves punts of 60 tons rolling on crawlers, called valves " Stoney".

The imposing crane is used to set up the " batardeaux" of Concrete stored close to the bridge and that one places the ones on the others to form a species of stopping arches in front of the valves which one wants to repair and which can thus be put " out of eau". This crane was also sometimes used to tranship goods or small boats on both sides of the stopping, since the Ain was navigable at the time
