Stop Furrier (1999)

The stop Pelletier (1999) is a judgment of the Supreme court of Canada invalidating a judgment of the Court of Appeal of Quebec which broke a judgment of first authority in connection with a Danse with contact (or Lap dance).

First authority

The Superior court of Quebec had heard a charge of a police officer of Joliette which had obtained a physical contact of a dancer in a club of Joliette to Quebec, it with its request, and which, thereafter had written a complaint.

The Superior court of Quebec had rejected the complaint. The customer, major and conscious of the place where it was, not being able at the same time to ask and (thereafter) to show what it had obtained…

Let us note that the stake was a sum of about 100 dollars. But it was of a right and a principle, this is why one went further.

Court of Appeal of Quebec

In the name of morals, the Court of Appeal of the Quebec broke the judgment of the county court while trying to lay down the rules of the dance in the clubs of this kind.

Supreme court of Canada

A suspense existed as from the moment when the Supreme court of Canada agreed to concentrate on the file. It will be called: Stop Furrier (1999), of the name of the proprétaire of the bar of Joliette where the infringement would have taken place. The figure (1999) was added owing to the fact that there existed already a Stop Furrier in the files of the Supreme court of Canada.

The effect

As from the moment when the public was informed that the Supreme court had given reason to the county court and thus wrong to the Court of Appeal of Quebec, the Medium of the clubs of dancers interpreted this judgment like giving the right to a club to offer the dance with contact.

Since, the clubs transformed their space to allow such contacts.
