Stony Toungouska

The stony Toungounska (in Russian ПодкаменнаяТунгуска, " Podkamennaja Tunguska") is a river Siberia long N 1830 km. It is an affluent of the Ienisseï. All its course is located in Russia.

It is born from the junction of the brooks Tetere and Katanga (this last being longest) in the mountains of Siberia to approximately 400 km in the north of Bratsk. The source of these brooks is at an altitude of 812 Mr. It runs out towards western north through the mountainous area then crosses the area of the Toungouska before being thrown in Ienisseï on the level of the village of Podkamennaja Toungouska located at the north of the solid mass of Ienisseï. Not far from the junction, on the other bank of Ienisseï the town of Bor is.

The site of Wanawara, located at the edge of the river, is known for the enigmatic event of Toungounska: a gigantic explosion took place in 1908 to approximately 65 km of this place and shaved an immense zone. The origin of this explosion ( a priori the arrival of a Meteorite of big size) is not still some today.

To approximately 100 km in the south of the source of this river, the lower Toungouska has its source. This last river also throws in Ienisseï 600 km more in north.

The qualification of stony comes from what the course of Toungouska at certain places underground is hidden under stony masses.
