Stoneham-and-Tewkesbury

Stoneham-and-Tewkesbury are a municipality of plain cantons Canadian of the province of Quebec located in the regional Municipalité of county of the Jacques-Cartier and the administrative area of the Capital-Main road. It is located at the door of the faunal Réserve of Laurentides and on the road which connects Quebec to the area of the Saguenay-Lake-Saint-Jean.

History

The village was founded by Philip Toosey in 1792 under the name of Stoneham, in reference to the English canton in which it was originating. It is only in 1855, at the time of its legal constitution, that the municipality took the denomination of Canton-Plain of Stoneham-and-Tewkesbury. At this time, the economic main motor is the forestry development. The River of Huron the, located on its territory, was used for transport of wood. In 1973, the municipality of Saint-Adolphe is attached to his territory.

Since, the economy of the municipality always rests on its forest resources but the récréo-tourist development came to be added to the resources of the municipality. Indeed, the Tourist resort Stoneham is located on its territory, which in fact a major pole in the entertaining activities of the area.
