After having acquired a certain notoriety thanks to Slipknot, Corey Taylor and James Root return in Stone Sour (without leaving Slipknot for as much). The group then leaves in 2002 its first album éponyme Stone Sour . In 2006 the group leaves its second album As What (ever) May which obtains an enormous success in the whole world in particular thanks to their individual " Through Glass".

History

The group holds its name of a cocktail, Stone Sour (of the whiskey, juice of orange and sour sauce).

It was created in 1992 at the origin by the vocalist Corey Taylor and the beater Joel Ekman who were then joined by the bass player Shawn Economaki. They did not have a precise musical goal, with share to write good songs. They played in clubs with a multitude of guitarists, until falling in 1995 on James (alias Jim) Root. During 5 years Stone Sour has creates excellent songs very melody, without particular kind, but based on Hard rock. However in 1997, Corey accepted the visit of three members of Slipknot promising to him to break the figure to him if it did not join their group letting the others carry on their own ways; one year later, Jim joined to him also Slipknot.

One did not hear any more of Stone Sour and all seemed to be finished for good, until 2000, where the guitarist Josh Rand (an old friend of Corey) contacts it and shows him some songs which it created. Together, they put one year and half to polish and create new songs, of what could be possibly Stone Sour. Once the completed work, the duet judged that work that they had achieved was of if good quality and was so faithful at the origins of Stone Sour which it was normal to contact the former members of the group, plus Dj of Slipknot, Sid Wilson.

6 years after their last concert, the group decided to choose a new name (they had to change patronym for reasons of rights); they hesitated between Project X, Superego, Closure, but could finally keep their name of origin; Stone Sour was of return. According to Corey, the difference with their first group, is that this time, the group is not any more afraid to compete with what is popular and remains faithful to its style. Corey says that Stone Sour aggressive, is believed, of the rock'n'roll in its purest form.
