Stomathérapie

The stomathérapie or entérostomathérapie can be defined as being the control of the technical training and the principles of the relation of assistance, which must allow the stomized as soon as possible to find its autonomy after the intervention, in order to take again a family life, personal, professional and social normal.

It is the research of the comfort and the autonomy (guarantors of a better quality of the life), which are the two conducting wire of the care of the stomathérapeute and the teams of care having to deal with stomized patient.

The stomathérapeute thus has to intervene in the choice of equipment and the education of the patients.

  • This imposes a perfect knowledge of the various models of equipment put on the market by the laboratories and which makes it possible to find an answer “technical” to the problems of equipment (most frequent being “escapes”) and the problems of cutaneous irritation.

  • a catch load on the psychological level is necessary to help the patient to accept themselves with this new “handicap”, and thus to facilitate the training of the care aiming to autonomy and thus to allow stomized its rehabilitation.

For all that, stomized profits from a first assumption of responsibility in the service of care by:

  • the research of adapted equipment.

  • education with the care and autonomisation.

But also, within the framework of an external consultation, stomized can profit from a follow-up to complete their technical control of the care and equipment of their stomy. They can come quite simply to speak about their difficulties in this consultation where they will find assistance and listening there.
