Stick of rain

The stick of rain is a percussion of the category of the idiophones. It consists of a hollow tube of approximately a meter (generally in dried cactus) of which the interior comprises spines.

Stone residues of lava are introduced into the tube which is then stopped at the two ends.

These stones have the characteristic to produce an acute tinkling when they are entrechoquent, while being slowed down in their fall by the spines.

It is enough to hold the stick of rain with the vertical then to turn over it to reproduce the noise of the rain.

To give a realistic effect of rain, several sticks, more or less great dimensions, are used. Largest produce a serious and deaf sound thus, whereas the small sticks of rain have a drier and acuter sound.
