Stewart Copeland

Stewart Armstrong Copeland (July 16th 1952, in Alexandria, in Virginia) is the beater of the group The Police, and after their separation, he played in other groups and composed of the film musics (in particular that of Rusty James of Francis Ford Coppola)

Biography

Its childhood

Stewart Copeland is born with the the United States in the town of South Norfolk, in Virginia. It is youngest of a family of 4 children. Very early in her life, its family leaves food in Egypt, with Alexandria. His/her father, Miles Centers Copeland Junior, was an agent of the the CIA, person in charge of the office with Beirut, the Lebanon. He goes to the American college of Beirut, and plays of the battery during dance at the school. Then, he studies with the the University of California, and leaves in England in 1975, where he plays for the progressive rock group Curved Air.

In 1977, Stewart Copeland with the singer and bass player Sting and the guitarist Henry Padovani (quickly replaced by Andy Summers), found the group The Police, which will become one of the most known groups of the Années 1980.

Style

Its style is easily recognizable: a powerful striking, often slightly in front of time. The sound of clear case is very tended and chechmate. Stewart Copeland largely took as a starting point the beaters and the rates/rhythms reggae which it accelerated while moving some accents. Stewart truly marked a whole generation of beaters…

Stewart Copeland takes in fact against foot of the former generation which was satisfied of a “software happy” very deaf and repetitive to the way " Eagles ". Very quickly, a sound engineer will help it to leave sonority characteristic of the group Police, stone angular of the trio, by regulating very high returned his large case. Illustration of this very elaborate technique, the piece Walking One The Moon (Album Regatta de Blanc ) is a model of the genre which made date in the history of the " reggae blanc" of Police force. Continuous Stewart Copeland to occur within the framework of various musical projects, mixing the influences readily. Around fifty passed, the energy of the ex-beater of Police force remains intact in front of its barrels. With the general surprise, the Police group decided to reform at the beginning of 2007 pennies the impulse of the Sting singer who however refused up to now to consider such a scenario. After one period of intense repetitions, the trio took again the road in May. This world tour is programmed until the end of the year 2007 while passing by Paris at the end of September 2007.
