Steven Defour

Steven Defour , born the April 15th 1988, is an international Belgian who evolves/moves at the station of offensive medium ground.

Career

Steven discovers division 1 with KRC Genk. At 17 years only, it is essential like holder and becomes one of the greatest hopes of Belgian football. Very quickly, of large European clubs like Chelsea FC, the Ajax Amsterdam or FC Valence is interested in him. It finally decides at summer 2006 to join the Ajax Amsterdam but president de Genk, Jos Vaessen opposes the transfer categorically. Steven takes then Paul Stefani like agent of player. Paul Stefani and Jos Vaessen never maintained positive ratios. This quarrel lasts since long years. After long a saga, the young player decides to use law 78, a Belgian law allowing him to break his contract. Ajax being then interested more, it is finally with the Standard of Liege that it decides to continue its career. For president de Genk, it is the drop which makes overflow the vase, it resigns. Steven Defour leaves to the Standard for an amount located between 1,5 and 2 million euros. Jos Vaessen will say whereas it is the most dreadful transfer which it ever had to conclude. Since then, the supporters of Genk regard Steven Defour as a judas. In 2006, it becomes also international Belgian. It is about the one of the greatest hopes of Belgian football and at 19 years, he appears already like indisputable in national team. He becomes captain of the standard for the season 2007-2008 and thus succeeds Sergio Conceiçao.
