Sternum

The sternum is a bone former part of the Rib cage on which come to stick the coasts ahead (seven first at the Man).
Man
At the Man, it is composed of three parts:- the Manubrium (resulting from the Latin meaning handle ), left high to which the Clavicule S stick to the level of the incisure claviculaire, and the first pair of Côtes, on both sides of manubrium, under the incisure claviculaire;
- the body of the sternum , on which the coasts (pairs n°2 to 7) stick; via the costal Cartilage S;
- the process Xiphoïde , located at the lower end of the sternum which comprises sometimes a perforation in its center.
Bird
In the bird, the sternum is more or less full, completely at the Autruche S, openwork for the Psittacidae , 4 broad and major notches at the Galliformes, and 2 notches at the Anseriformes.
Insect
The sternum is the name of the Sclérite ventral of the Thorax of the insect.
