Sterling Trucks
Sterling trucks is a mark of trucks of the group Freightliner LLC, (group Daimlerchrysler company (the United States).
The Sterling Motor Truck Compangny , of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was initially known under the name of: Sternberg Motor Truck Compangny , rested by William Sternberg a German emigrant of origin . ----
In 1907, the company began the production with models of truck with Cabine advanced from 1 to 5 tons.
In 1914, the firm introduces a Camion with Capot with a Transmission by chain, of 7 tons payload.
In 1916, conscious of the feelings anti-German waked up by the First World War, the founder chooses to rename the Serling firm.
In 1917, the American Armée drew up the plans of a standard heavy truck from 3 to 5 tons, (named Liberty ). All that to avoid heteroclite problems of spare parts which required considerable stocks. The request was such during the first war that more than 8000 trucks Liberty were sent in France. The company Sterling as of other companies American built trucks Liberty of class B. After the Guerre some companies Européenne one converted the Véhicules with the civil use.
From 1920 with 1929 the range of trucks included: From the 5 and 7 tons with drive chain, propelled by engines with Gasoline of Sterling 4 cylinders. And also a Moteur 6 cylinders was added to the range with models of tractors of: 12 and 20 tons.
In 1931, the series F with cap was launched.
In 1932, to increase the production, Sterling bought American LaFrance, a Constructeur of Camion of fireman. Then the company introduces diesel engines Cummins, the company being one of the first manufacturers to offer them in option with the petrol engines.
In 1937, apès of tests of a model with original tilting cabin advanced nonprofitable, (a part rocked backwards, without touching with the front part, the windshield and the wings). A truck with traditional advanced cabin had appeared under the name series G.
In 1938, Fageol Truck Co. Based Oakland, ceased its activity and Sterling repurchased the credits. While keeping the property of the network of Distribution. Sterling sold the factory with the production taxes to Theodore Alfred Peterman, who installed the company Peterbilt Motor.
In 1951, after having built military trucks specialized for the Second world war, the firm tried to convert this type of trucks for the civil use, but because of a weakness of the market, the company had to be begun again by White Motor Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. For one short period the production continued under the name of White sterling.
In 1955, Daimler-Benz repurchased the name Sterling.
In 1997, the branch heavy trucks of Ford to the the United States was absorbed with the factory, located at Willoughby, Ohio, by the Freightliner LLC Corporation, which belongs to Daimler-Benz. And since then, the products are marketed under the name Sterling.
The mark is especially present in the short one and average distance like in work of Chantier and the municipal services specialized.
The Cargo series consists of a truck with cabin over engine, average weight, intended for the urban delivery and public works. this model was introduced on the European market in 1981.
Sterling has also a Tracteur of great luxury: it is the Sterling Silver Star, which offers also the robustness and the power.
