Stephen Michael Stirling
Stephen Michael Stirling is an Canadian-American author of Science-fiction and Fantasy. Its novels often describe military situations and militarist cultures.
Stirling was born with Metz, France, in September 1953 of an English mother and a Canadian father. He lived in several countries and currently resides at the New Mexico, the United States, with his wife Jan.
Except insistence on the soldier, the adventure and exploration in its books, it often describes companies with cultural values appreciably different from the modern Western sights, particularly with a more liberal attitude towards sexuality (of the characters lesbians are often represented), in a manner sympathetic nerve or at least neutral. One of its topics recurring is the influence of the culture on the prospects and the values of an individual, with a particular emphase on the fact that the majority of the people and companies are regarded as being (in general) morals.
In the past he frequently collaborated with other authors such David Drake, Jerry Pournelle and Anne McCaffrey.
Stirling is probably most known for its Draka series, novels of alternative History and most recent `' Island in the Sea off Time `' trilogy combining voyage in time and alternative Histoire. Its novels `' Go Such The Spartans'' and `' Prince off Sparta'' are held in the universe of " CoDominium" of Jerry Pournelle.
Stirling, critic
Stirling is known to be frank and distinct when it comes to its political opinions. It is of agreement with the preserving position of '' the faucons" American on the Middle East and supports the radical theories socio-economic on the produce market. It also has advances the opinion that the state of the world would improve if the Islam disappeared, which was interpreted by certain as an approval of the Génocide of all the Musulmans. However, it clearly indicated that it is not Christian and that it should not be put in the same basket as the evangelic faction of the American néo-conservatives.In-outside E. - U., it particularly was the target with criticism about its Draka series, which with the eyes of some seems to praise (or at least to exaggerate the effectiveness) of a company Totalitaire, Raciste and genocidary. Certainly, the company of the books of the Draka series has, in an unrealistic way, little of disadvantages and weaknesses (except moral point of view) apart from a slower scientific progress. Moreover, the protagonists are described in a very positive way, like men and women of honor, even whereas they conquer and subjugate brutally a whole world. It is known to be dismayed by this analysis of its work. It describes the Draka series like a Dystopie based on the " assumption that very had happened as badly as possible the latter siècles". The page titrates of one of its novels (`' Conquistador `') shows the quotation: there is a technical term for somebody who confuses the opinions of a character of a book with those of the author. This term is idiotic.
Stirling was also shown to be clearly anti-Christian in his work, in particular with respect to the Christians and of the Wicca (Re: series " Dies the Fire").

Nantucket series
In the Island series in the Sea off Time the island of Nantucket is transported by an unknown phenomenon (called " The Event" /" The Change" in the series) behind in time until the Bronze Age, approximately 1250 before J.C. (corresponding to the last Heroic Age of Greek mythology). The trilogy describes the conflict between the various factions of the population of the island - some trying to dominate the world for their own advantage, others trying to improve it - and various civilizations of the bronze age.Towards the end of the third book, Nantucket is the member dominating of an important network of allies and in continuous increase, rather reminiscence of the British Empire (although Great Britain itself is here one of protectorates and a source of " tribes of guerrier" to register as mercenaries in the armies of Nantucket).

Draka series
The novels of the Draka series postulate a African empire (white) slave, militarist (founded by Americans loyal supporters escaped in South Africa after the Guerre of independence of the United States of America and later joined by the Confédérés demolished after the American Civil War) and follows its historical development during the 19èmes and 20èmes centuries. The culture of Draka is remarkable to strictly combine a company of classes hierarchical with an almost complete equality of the sexes (female soldiers including in the fighting military units). Compared with the current Western company, nudity and sexuality are much less taboues. The first three books make the chronicle of the expansion of Draka, starting with their invasion and the conquest of the Europe during the end of the Second world war (up to this point, the European part of this alternative History was practically unchanged), which leads to a scenario of cold war, hidden war where they face the free world carried out by America.
The final book (`' The Stone Dogs `') described the continuation of this war in space, and the final apocalyptic nuclear battle enters the two antagonistic factions.
