Stephen Alfred Forbes is a American Naturaliste , born the May 29th 1844 in Silver Creek in the Comté of Stephenson in the Illinois and dead the March 13rd 1930 with Urbana.

Forbes is the son of Isaac Sawyer and Agnes born Van Hoesen. It makes its studies with the Medical Rush College and obtains its doctorate with the Université of Indiana in 1884. Married with Clara Shaw Gaston the December 25th 1873, it will have five children.

Of 1872 with 1877, it is preserving with the Museum of natural history of the State of Illinois. He is the entomologist of State of 1882 with 1917, professor of Zoologie at the university of Illinois of 1884 with 1909, professor of Entomologie of 1909 with 1921, senior of the Faculty of Science of 1888 with 1905.

He receives the medal of first class of the zoological imperial Société of acclimatization for his publications in 1886. He is the founder and the publication director of the Bulletin off Illinois State Labotary Natural History (today Bulletin off Illinois State Natural History Survey ) in 1877. The university of Illinois decrees a to him honorary Doctorat of right in 1905.
