Stemona sessilifolia

Stemona sessilifolia is a species of climbing plant tuberose of the family of the Stemonaceae , originating in the Far East.

The specific epithet, sessilifolia , point out the sessile character of the sheets inserted directly on the stem.

Description

This plant has a voluble stem which can reach 70 cm length.

The roots, tuberous, form a beam drawn up out of the ground, giving the impression which the plant is held on stilts.

The flowers is characterized by a perianth formed from four Tépale S distinct from color violet, and prominent foliaceous cheesecloth S. It release a stinking odor.

Surface of distribution

This species is spontaneous in the Far East: China (Anhui, Fujian, Hubei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang) and Japan.

Use

  • Food: the roots are consumed like Légume S, are believed or jumped, in certain areas of China.
  • medicinal Plant: this species belongs to the Chinese traditional pharmacopeia.
  • insecticidal Plant: the reduced roots powders some and put to macerate in water allow to prepare an effective insecticidal liquid against various kinds of insects.
