Steinfurt (district)

Geographical location

The district of Steinfurt ( Kreis Steinfurt ) is located at the north of the Land of Rhineland-of-North-Westphalia and extend on the septentrional part of the country of Münster. It has limits with the towns of Münster and Osnabrück the districts of Borken, Coesfeld and Warendorf as well as the district low-Saxon of the County of Bentheim, of the Country of Ems and Osnabrück. It is crossed by the river of Ems of the south in north like by a highways; 1 (Münster-Bremen) A 30 (Osnabrück-Bad Bentheim) and A 31 (Bottrop-Emden). The airport of Münster/Osnabrück is located at the south of the district.

History

The district was created on January 1st, 1975 by law of July 9th, 1974 by amalgamating the old districts of Steinfurt and Tecklenburg.
