Steinbach (Belgium)
Steinbach (in Walloon : Stambè ) is a village of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Luxembourg.
It belongs to the old commune of Limerlé which is a section of the common today of Gouvy.
Steinbach has 175 inhabitants, it is located on the Ourthe Orientale.
The inheritance of Steinbach: Castle of Beurthé, the Castle of Mesnil and the Field of the Farm.
Etymology
At the 14th century, the attested form is Stambay , of the Walloon Be , “brook”, and of German stemmen , “to bar”, transformed into “stony” by étymolgie popular. The German use carried it on the Walloon use in official name.
