Stein amndt Rhein
Stein amndt Rhein is a common Canton of Schaffhouse. It divides on the two sides of the Rhine. This commune is known for its old city dating from the Middle Ages. It is a center of transit known between Switzerland Germany.
Geography
The small historical city is located at the place where Untersee emerges in the the Rhine, with 413 meters of altitude. The commune extends on a surface from 575 hectares
History
The development of the borough began with the establishment from the convent Benedictine from Saint-Georges de Hohentwiel, between 1003 and 1007. The Masters of the abbey were initially the Zähringen, then the barons de Klingen.During the the Middle Ages, the rise of the city continued thanks to the forwarding transshipment of the goods of the the Rhine to the lake of Constancy.
Stein amndt Rhein is mentioned for the first time like city in 1267, year at the time from which it receives the franknesses. In 1457, it obtains the immediacy of Empire.
In 1484, Stein amndt Rhein passes under the authority of Zurich which introduces the Reform in 1525 and secularizes the convent. The city becomes schaffousoise in 1803.
The February 22nd 1945, an American bombardment inflicts some damage at historical buildings of the city.
The common one has receives the Prix Wakker in 1972 for the exemplary safeguarding of its urban site.
In 2007, to celebrate the millenium of the foundation of the city, the Swiss Poste publishes three stamps with photographs of the locality.
Economy
Tourism is the main resource of the local population. The city knows some industrial activities: a factory of pieces of furniture (Dietiker Switzerland), a factory of underclothing (Schiesser) and a company of electromechanics (Phoenix Mechanic).
