Steffan Danielsen

Steffan Danielsen (Johan Steffan) (September 3rd 1922 with Nólsoy/Faroe Islands - May 28th 1976 with Tórshavn/Faroe Islands) was a painter féringien.

Steffan Danielsen, which was autodidact, found the majority of the topics for its paintings in its village of Nólsoy and all the island of the same name. In its work, Steffan Danielsen restores the original and true atmosphere of the island.

Bárður Jákupsson compares Danielsen - in its book Færøernes billedkunst (visual Arts in the Faroe Islands) - with the traditional painter Sámal Joensen Mikines, which him also lived on an small island of the archipelago: Mykines. The two islands accommodate the most important colonies of birds of the archipelago and comprise each one one village. Contrary to the society man which was Mikines, Danielsen left the archipelago only once, in 1951-1956, in Denmark. With the Ólavsøka of 1952, it obtained its first exposure.

Steffan Danielsen described its island of origin in its fabrics until in depth, under all the conceivable prospects, that it is since a boat at sea, a rock headland or the window of its kitchen. Under each light, by sun or time of rain, snow or fog. Its work gives an impression of deep veracity, of an acute perception of the places. Its landscapes are often of careful ranges of gray. The nuances of colors are to him an invaluable means to express the sensitivity of the places.
