Steamboat Ventures

Steamboat Ventures is a company of Capital risk created by the Walt Disney Company in September 2000. It is named according to first film of Mickey Mouse, Steamboat Willie , is left in 1928.

The principle and history

Officially the company goes up its history with the spirit of innovation of Walt Disney. The company always sought either of the people or of the companies which would allow him to improve its productions or its creations. Thus Walt Disney had been surrounded engineers or " key-with-tout" who helped it to revolutionize, inter alia, animation then the amusement parks. The best examples are the sound Synchronization, the Caméra multiplane, the Monorail S and the Audio-animatronic S.

More seriously, Steamboat Ventures owes its birth with several facts of the Années 1990:

Walt Disney Company invested during this period time in several companies of leisures, or supported them, for example the restaurants House off Blues, Planet Hollywood. These investments had a mitigated success.
Disney did not manage any more to attract new collaborators " innovants" and those which belonged to the company saw laid off for economic reasons (It was the case at Walt Disney Imagineering).
Disney as invested during the Bulle Internet in several companies related to new technologies as it has then to sell or integrate into its subsidiary company Walt Disney Internet Group.
Disney having invested directly sometimes important sums, the assessment of the investments forever was not clearly defined. Moreover the responsibility for the company was sometimes put cantilever, it also directly.
In parallel, thanks to the holding of Roy Edward Disney named Shamrock Holding, the Disney company had been able to discover with the beginning of the year 1990 a small very innovating studio named Pixar. Shamrock which is not related at all to Walt Disney Company made capital risks.

For these reasons Walt Disney Company was to create a company to follow the investments which it jugait necessary.

According to its own provisions, the company Steamboat Ventures invests in a company between 2 and 5 million $, going up sometimes up to 10 million and the assistance to be developed. It makes benefit from the network of the subsidiary companies of Walt Disney Company, the experiment and the contacts in the world of the large companies.

The March 7th 2007: Steamboat Ventures, holding of Disney, announce to invest with others sociéts American 23,5 million $ in UUSee, an important site of Chinese video online distributing the programs of CCTV.
