Stave

Stave (in Walloon Ståve ) is a section of the common Belgian of Mettet located in Walloon region in the Province of Namur.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

Old forms: Stalled (868), Stabulis , Staules (1209).

Possible etymologies: cattle shed or relay (Latin stabulum , “stable, cattle shed”).

History

The village of Stave, one of oldest of Wallonia, was divided between the Comté of Namur, the Principauté of Liege (for the hamlet of Cornelle), and an independent seigniory, the Franc-Douaire.
