Staurakios

Staurakios , dead on January 11th, 812, was Byzantine emperor in 811. He was the son of Nicéphore I {{er}} and of the empress Procopia and had married Théophano, a cousin of the empress Irene.

Staurakios becomes Empereur with the tragic death of his father, on July 26th, 811. Paralyzed by a wound of the sword to the neck during the battle of Pliska against the Bulgarian of the khan Kroum, it reigned only one month, from July 28th to October 1st, before withdrawing themselves in a Monastère, where it died on January 11th, 812.

He abdicated in favor of his brother-in-law Michel I {{er}} Rhangabé.
