Statute of Westminster

The Statute of Westminster , ratified the December 11th 1931, is the official recognition of the independence of all the Dominion S belonging to the British Empire, that is to say the Australia (ratified on October 9th, 1942, retroactively at September 3rd, 1939), the Canada (1937), the free State of Ireland, the New Zealand (ratified on November 25th, 1947), Newfoundland (ever ratified, its statute of dominion was revoked on January 30th, 1934) and the South African Union (ratified of in 1934 swears). This statute makes Canada completely independent at the international point (trade, war…), but is always limited to the political point of view; this one cannot change its constitution without the agreement of London.

According to the text of the Statute, All the dominions belonging to the British Empire are countries independent within the framework of the British Empire, enjoying the same statute and in any way subordinates the ones with the others as for their interior or foreign relations, and however plain in an allegiance common to the sovereign of Great Britain and freely associated like members with the British Commonwealth. This statute makes Canada completely independent on the international point (trade, wars, etc…), but there remains depend on England from the political point of view. It cannot thus change its constitution (A.A.N.B) without the agreement of England.
