States of the mountains

The States of the mountains (in English Mountain States or Mountain West ) form an area in the West of the the United States, officially recognized by the Bureau of the census of the United States. This expression indicates the states located in the Rocky Mountains and generally includes the states of the Idaho, of the Montana, the Utah, the Wyoming and the Colorado. The Arizona and the New Mexico are sometimes added to this list.

Human geography

The weak density of population characterizes this area. The urban centres most important are on the periphery of the area (Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas, Colorado Springs). However, certain urbanized centers, of more modest sizes, are in the center of the area (Boise, Salt Lake City).
