State d\' Oaxaca

The State de Oaxaca is a State located in the south of the Mexico at the south-west of the Isthme of Tehuantepec, in the mountains and valleys of the Sierra Veined LED On and Sierra Veined Eastern. It is surrounded by the State of the Guerrero in the west, by Puebla with the North-West, Veracruz in North and the Chiapas in the east. The southern border of Oaxaca gives on the Pacific Ocean. Oaxaca occupies a surface of 95  364 km ² (that is to say three times the Belgium) and constitute the fifth greater State of the country.

During the 3 previous millenia the Aztec arrival of the S (1436), the most powerful and influential people was the Zapotèques, Mixtèques and Mixes. One finds important archaeological traces with Monte Albán (the most attractive site of the state), Mitla, Cerro de Minas, Guiegola, Huijatzoo, etc

The power struggles changed when the Aztec ones settled around Cerro del Fortín; their temple was located at the current site of the church Camen Alto.

The name of Oaxaca (to pronounce or rha Ca), comes from the Nahuatl, the name of huaxyácac or place close to the acacias was given to the principal valley surrounding the capital, because of many trees huaje (standard of acacias) there pushed. As Spanish found this word difficult to pronounce, the name was transformed into Oaxaca, both for the State the city.

The Spanish S settled in 1521, in Segura Frontera which will become later Nueva Antequera. In 1532, Charles Quint will sign a decree changing the name of Nueva Antequera into Antequera de Guaxaca and giving him the statute of royal city.

The capital was renamed Oaxaca de Juarez in the honor of the brilliance politician Benito Juárez, originating in this State.

Tourism and industrialization

Recently the city opens with tourism and industrialization, because this area always keeps its lifestyle, with its ancestral traditions and its craft industry.

The population of the State counts approximately 32% of natives left again in several ethnos groups.

Tourism also develops on beaches of the state: Puerto Angel, Pochutla, Mazunte, Salina Cruz, etc Puerto Escondido universally famous in the surfers thanks to its waves.
