Amazonas is a State of the Venezuela. Its capital is Puerto Ayacucho.

Population

With 70% of its population concentrated in the municipe of Atures and a very low demographic density, Amazonas is one of the least populated states Venezuela. Puerto Ayacucho is the only city of the state, while among the villages, most important is San Fernando de Atabapo, which counts 4500 inhabitants more or less. The remainder of the population is very dispersed.

Subdivisions

The state is divided into seven municipes:

National parks

The state of Amazonas has quantity of natural sites of the greatest interest. Several national parks were created there.

  • National park Parima Tapirapecó : The inventory of the species of the flora and fauna is not specified yet, but it is known that one found there a great number of new species.

  • Serranía National park Neblina : Located at the south-west of the national park Parima Tapirapecó, it is next to the border Brésil ienne. It recovers the zone of the mountains of Neblina.
  • National park Yapacana : In the area planes which extends between the ríos Orinoco and Ventuari, rises the principal natural elements of this park, Cerro Yapacana, in form of Tepuy, which has an altitude of 1345 meters. One discovered here plant species of the Néotropique sudaméricain and the paléotropique one of Asia sudorientale.
  • National park Duida Marahuaca : The tops Duida and Marahuaca are vertical plates of tabular formation correspondents to a formation of the Roraima type of the solid mass of the guyanes. In this national park one classified 167 vascular kinds of Cryptogame S and of Phanérogame S. In the zone of the Duida mount one discovered 169 species of plants and its fauna very rich and is varied.

Natural monuments

  • Piedra del Cocuy : The summit of this monumental rock consists of three quasi vertical peaks. It is a single geological formation in the world, corresponding to the period Précambrien. Wood which surrounds it contain rare plant species only met in the area.
  • Cerro Autana : In local language " Autana" mean crowned mountain. This top rises like a gigantic tower of 1300 meters. The upper part is dug by a formed cave of quarzites, where a particular ore was discovered.
  • Piedra of Tortuga : or Pierre of the tortoise . This granite rock resembles a large tortoise petrified in full Amazon forest. It is covered with vegetation lithophile.
  • Piedra Pintada : or Pierre painted French . This natural monument is made of a black rock, of granitic formation, which has Pétroglyphe S engraved going back to highest antiquity, such as for example an immense caiman and large a 120 meters length snake.
